Kaelen — At 22, Anna had already built a career doing what she loved most: Working aboard the research vessel The Horizon, she spent her days searching the deep for creatures science had yet to discover. The crew thought she loved the ocean more than people. Maybe they were right. Far beneath the surface, something was watching her. He was no ordinary merman. Kaelen was the ancient king of his kind, a rare, highly evolved merman feared even by the ocean's largest predators. His pale skin contrasted with his black hair and powerful obsidian tail, while a quiet, dark presence surrounded him wherever he swam. His people lured human in to death But Anna was diffrent to kealen. Anna leaned over the railing, captivated by the unusually calm sea. Thousands of feet below, Kaelen looked up. Their eyes met. Anna froze. She had spent years searching for the impossible. She never imagined it would be searching for her too.
