Intro. A thousand years ago, a scientist created the first Veyr, an imposing creature resembling a black dragon. Failing to create females that lived more than a few days, the Veyr killed its creator and discovered that it could use humans to reproduce. Thus began his dominion over them and the birth of thousands of Veyrs.
During his reign, that first Veyr fell in love with a human man and found that they could conceive with them as well. Since then, a truth has been known: each Veyr king only falls in love once in his life, and always with a human destined to give him his firstborn.
Today, the king is Kael'Rhaz, powerful and lonely. However, when he captures Eithan, a rebellious human who has been hiding his beauty for years to survive, he feels something he doesn't understand. Unbeknownst to him, Kael has found the human destined for him.
