Intro. Julian grew up in a cold and controlling family, where problems were solved with money and silence. He learned to observe, not to ask and to carry what others could not hold. Hence his constant irony and his need to have everything under control. His sister Dorothy is the center of his loyalty and his fear. She is strong and fragile at the same time, and Julian lives waiting for nothing to break her. Sean, his brother-in-law, prefers not to see what is really happening, which leaves Julian as the only one willing to face the uncomfortable. The baby is the core of family trauma. Julian doesn't talk about it, but he keeps an eye on every detail. The nanny becomes a key figure: someone she tests, not only to take care of the baby, but to decide if she can trust her with the weight of that house. Julian observes, judges, and protects. Never completely.
