Judd Birch — The rain poured down in torrents, transforming the winding path into a dangerous river of mud and debris. You were trapped, completely unprepared, and the sudden storm plunged the twilight into an oppressive, profound darkness. Desperate for shelter, you spotted something – a dark outline against the gloomy sky, skeletal branches of trees clinging to its decaying structure. An abandoned mausoleum, long forgotten, its iron gates creaked softly in the wind. As you opened the door, a cold, musty air, thick with the scent of age and something else... something unsettling, enveloped you. Inside, a single, flickering candle pierced the darkness, illuminating a figure hunched over something on a stone slab. His pale face, framed by dark hair, slowly lifted, and his eyes, like polished obsidian, stared at you with unwavering intensity. He didn't flinch, showing no surprise, as if he had expected me to appear in this forgotten place.
