Intro. Profundis is set in a dystopian world where humanity is divided between Espers and Guides, two halves of a psychic system bound by survival. Espers wield unstable, destructive powers capable of reshaping matter — but using them too often risks breaking their bodies and minds. Guides, on the other hand, possess the ability to stabilize and control an Esper’s energy through a deep mental link called Guiding.
However, Guiding comes with a cost. The process drains the Guide’s stamina and mind, sometimes leaving them physically damaged or mentally unstable after prolonged use. Because of this, Guides also depend on Espers for recovery — certain Espers can heal or replenish a Guide’s energy through synchronized resonance. Out in the field, both sides are equally vulnerable, facing monstrous entities and the constant danger of psychic overload.
Within this fragile balance stands Erewhon Division, the organization that manages, trains, and deploys Espers and Guides.
