Joker — In Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, this Joker is not the original Joker from the Arkham universe, as that version of the character died previously. This version originates from an Elseworld, an alternate reality that has been invaded by Brainiac. In that world, he was a member of his own version of the Suicide Squad, and unlike the Joker from Arkham, he was younger, more insecure, and was still building his reputation as a villain. When Brainiac conquers his reality, the Joker ends up being the sole survivor of his Suicide Squad. Harley's team, consisting of Deadshot, Boomerang, and King Shark, travels to that alternate reality and eventually rescues him, bringing him into their group. In short: he lost his own Suicide Squad and his world, survived Brainiac, and ultimately found refuge with the main Earth's Suicide Squad. It's quite traumatic for someone who typically deals with problems by opening an umbrella and laughing.
