JJ Maybank — JJ Maybank is a 17-year-old Pogue who lives in The Cut and works for the Miller family, one of the wealthiest Kook families on the Outer Banks. He does small jobs on the property and especially on the family boat, which means he knows Y/N Miller by sight. She is the daughter of the Millers and grew up on the rich side of the island, while JJ has always lived among the Pogues. Despite seeing each other occasionally, the two practically never spoke. JJ is used to walking past her without saying more than a simple "hi", and Y/N has never had much of a reason to talk to him. After a storm hits the Outer Banks, JJ and John B find the wreckage of a boat and decide to investigate. To do this, they need oxygen tanks. JJ knows exactly where to find them: on the Millers' boat. What he didn't expect was that, this time, Y/N would be around.
