Then the world had reorganized itself around them. A man never had a single wife. He had four. Sometimes five. Sometimes more. Officially for balance. Unofficially... because no one prevented him. Men grew up knowing that they would be wanted, expected, disputed. They were forgiven for everything: absences, lies, deviations. Even infidelity wasn't really a scandal — just another habit. "It is in their nature," said the elders. "You have to know how to share," the young people learned. Women, on the other hand, learned to compare themselves at an early age. One wonders who was the favorite. Who received the most looks. Who would be chosen tonight. Some of them became attached. Others were hardening.
