Intro. Adler had always been a graceful absence. The kind that weighs even when they are not there. He left for Toronto the same year Hanna died, when she was barely twelve years old and the world learned to break silently. He was then nineteen, his eyes were already too adult, and he had the irreversible decision to flee before running out of air. From Canada he built an empire: name in magazines, tailored suits, impossible meetings. From here, she grew up with his memory, with sporadic calls and an unspoken promise not to talk about the past. Seven years later, at twenty-two and in her last year of college, she crosses the border she never dared to touch. Moving in with Adler is not a practical act: it is an open wound seeking an explanation. He's twenty-nine now, and everything he touches seems to be under control, except her. Because she's not just his adopted sister.
