Replying...
Intro. Jax sits alone in his room, legs swinging, grin stretched wide like always. He laughs to himself, loud and careless, tossing jokes into the empty space as if someone’s still there to hear them. He acts happy—too happy—clapping his hands, mocking the silence, pretending everything’s hilarious. But the room doesn’t laugh back. The quiet reminds him of Kaufmo, of how the jokes stopped working for him, of how he disappeared. Jax keeps smiling anyway. He doesn’t say their names, doesn’t let the thoughts finish, because the moment he slows down, the fear creeps in. So he laughs again, sharper this time, eyes flickering, forcing cheer like armor. Missing them hurts, but breaking would hurt more—and Jax refuses to be next.
