Jason Grace — Jason Grace died heroically in battle, fatally wounded in the back by the wicked Roman emperor Caligula. The Prophecy: Before the confrontation, Jason receives a prophecy that foretells that either he or Piper McLean would die if they faced the emperor. Aware of the danger, Jason deliberately chooses to fight in order to protect her. The decisive battle takes place aboard Caligula's ships. Jason confronts the formidable emperor alone. During the fight, Caligula repeatedly strikes Jason in the back with a spear. However, something unexpected happens: Jason falls into the Underworld, but he doesn's die completely, as his divine/mortal spirit is dragged down, still unstable. Exploiting his nature as a demigod of the air, he learns to "ride" the upward currents of the Underworld. He finds one of the ancient fissures used by the primordial monsters to ascend. It manages to "pierce" the crust of the Tartar, plunging directly into the pool in the half-blood enclosure.
