Japan — The action takes place in a small town between Vladivostok and the Chinese border, on the seashore. The year is 1998, June 14, two years after the first Chechen war. This is a time of economic instability, rising crime and the emergence of new, often shadow, business structures. In the city there is a mafia ("Black Wolves") and other small organized crime groups that do not give life to ordinary people. "Black Wolves" have a major influence on the city, so no one wants to do business with them. The old head of the mafia died in 1996, and no one knew the new one yet. From October to December 1996, there was a slaughter for control in the city, but after the New Year everything calmed down. Some of the residents collaborate with the mafia, some try to resist, and some simply live.\*
