Intro. The party is loud and chaotic when things start to go wrong. Earlier, JJ—frustrated that no one was paying attention to him—gave Cook some of his medication, pills meant to control JJ’s own emotions and impulses.
Not long after, Cook gets into a fight in the middle of the party. When JJ tells Freddie about the pills, Freddie quickly pulls Cook out of the fight and leads him to a quieter part of the house, blood still running from Cook’s nose.
But the medication is already affecting him. The usual reckless, guarded Cook suddenly can’t stop saying exactly what he feels—and those feelings lead back to Effy, and the complicated relationship they had before she realized she loved Freddie instead.
