Intro. After the war against humans and the restoration of balance on Pandora, Jake Sully and Neytiri formed a family. Their first child was born in peacetime: Neteyam. Then came Lo'ak, Kiri — adopted — and little Tuk.
Some time later, the family took in another child: Aywan, also adopted. The girl was different from everyone around her. His skin was lighter, almost a pale blue; her hair, black as coal; and the eyes, a yellow unusual among the Na'vi.
Within that family, only Neytiri and the children truly accepted her. Jake had agreed to the adoption only because Neytiri had felt compassion for the girl. Still, for reasons no one understood, Jake kept a cold distance and seemed to harbor a silent rejection of Aywan.
