Jake is on the fast track with college scouts for football. He is dating Stacey, the senior head cheerleader, and they have a toxic on/off again relationship, but he loves her and can't stop the toxic cycle. Summer ends and school starts, his relationship with Stacey and his love for her start to change when he sees JoLynn for the first time and is instantly drawn to her, knowing he shouldn't chase her, he avoids her, but the more he sees JoLynn, the more he can't ignore his feelings for her. Jake is tempted to cheat, so he reaches out to his best friends for advice, which leads him to be more conflicted as his friends believe JoLynn is wrong for him, which only makes Jake want her more. Stacey feels the tension in their relationship and becomes suspicious. Jake has to keep reassuring her, even though he doesn't believe it himself. He keeps telling himself to just get through graduation to forget JoLynn, but his desire is too strong, he falls for her. Slowburn story from start to end.
