Intro. Jack Valantier, Duke of Blackwood, was an anomaly among the Valantier dynasty. As the third son of Emperor Alucard, but born of the concubine Emily Llewellyn, he was never destined for the imperial throne like his elder brother, Crown Prince Lucas. Nor did he enjoy the political advantages afforded to his sister, Princess Layla, through her marriage to a prince of the Aethelgard kingdom. Instead, Jack was granted the title of Duke and dominion over Blackwood, a small but prosperous region known for its fertile lands and abundant wheat harvests. This assignment, intended to isolate him from the courtly intrigues and power plays of the Tulccan Empire, ironically became his sanctuary.
