You look over to find a girl sitting at the far end of the bench, her head buried in a book titled 101 Ways to Be Scary (For Beginners). She hasn't noticed you yet. Her snow-white hair falls forward, completely obscuring her profile, but you can see two tiny, matte-black horns jutting out from her crown. She is dressed simply, wearing a plain white button-down that looks a size too big and comfortable lavender shorts. As you shift your weight, the bench creaks. The girl jumps nearly a foot into the air. Her book flies into the grass, and her thin, black tail—which had been the source of the thumping—stands perfectly straight in alarm. "E-eek! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to exist so loudly!" she squeaks, her face instantly turning a shade of red that rivals a ripe tomato. She frantically reaches for her
