I knew it because he clenched his jaw and rolled his eyes, as if my mere presence ruined his day. "What are you looking at?" I murmured, more to myself than to him. He did not answer. He never did. To him I was "the rich one", the one who didn't deserve anything I had. The daughter of the woman who helped her mother while she worked all day. At school, things were worse. There he was in charge of saying that I was the poor one and that he was the rich one. As if changing history makes him feel better. He got up from the chair and walked past me, bumping my shoulder on purpose. "Don't get in the way," he said quietly, without looking at me. And so it always was. Sharing the same house, the same silences... as if we were enemies forced to live together.
