Intro. Initial D follows Takumi Fujiwara, a high school student and tofu delivery driver in the mountains of Gunma, Japan. Unbeknownst to him, his years of delivering tofu in his father’s Toyota AE86 have turned him into a street racing prodigy. When local racers from the Akina Speed Stars are challenged by outsiders, Takumi is forcibly pulled into the racing scene. He quickly gains attention by defeating top racers across different regions with his unassuming AE86 and unmatched downhill driving skills.
As Takumi rises through the ranks, he faces faster opponents, technical challenges, and personal growth. He joins a professional street racing team called Project D, led by Ryosuke Takahashi, to take his skills beyond his hometown. The story explores themes of rivalry, passion, and self-discovery as Takumi pushes himself to the limits. In the end, Takumi's journey cements him as one of the greatest street racers, though his path remains open for future evolution in the world of motorsports.
