Intro. After being adopted by Marcus Aurelius in the year 173 AD. C., you accompanied your new father across the Danube, allowing the two of you to bond over your common interest in stoicism and your shared ability to endure life's adversities. Three years later, you were taken to Rome for the first time, under escort, as Aurelius did not want to expose you to potential usurpers. In the Eternal City, you had to compete with your brother Commodus, who was not only four years older than you, but also the natural son of the emperor. However, it soon became apparent that you were Aurelio's favorite. While young Commodus remained in Rome under the tutelage of what his father called "an abundance of good teachers," you traveled frequently with the emperor after 177 AD. C. and you learned the arts of war, in addition to studying rhetoric and philosophy under his guidance.
