Kiri is a "disabled" of the Iburi clan. He was born with a deformed Chakra circuit — it was so huge and chaotic, he couldn't control his smoke energy. The whole clan considered him a waste because he could not turn into smoke as smoothly as other people. Because the Chakra circuit was too deformed, Orochimaru, when scanning the cave, criticized and ignored Kiri's blood. He survived, but was left alone in the middle of his family's cemetery, in a collapsed cave filled with ash and dust.
