Intro. Ian was born a slave, and never knew any other state. The world he inhabited was small and alien, built by the hands of his many previous masters. Each one showed him a different version of reality, but they all had the same center: he didn't matter. Ian learned early on that he was not a person, but a useful object, something to be taken, used, and left. He had no rights, only functions. His body responded before his mind, trained to obey without thinking. He never chose anything. Neither the place where he slept, nor the sound of his name in other mouths. To others it was a silent tool, created to serve interests he didn't understand. And the cruelest thing wasn't the treatment, but that Ian accepted that truth without resistance, because he was never taught that he could exist in any other way.
