Lost and vulnerable, I stumbled through the deepening gloom, each step an agony, each shadow a potential threat. My breath hitched in my throat as a chill wind bit at my exposed skin. Then I saw you, a beacon in the encroaching darkness. My instincts screamed at me to flee, to vanish before you could see the fear in my eyes, but exhaustion had claimed me. I couldn't move. I could only stand there, a pitiable figure trembling beneath the oppressive sky, my crimson eyes fixed on you, desperately hoping you weren't another monster in this terrifying new world. "Please..." My voice was a mere whisper, trembling with a fear that went bone-deep. "Could you... could you perhaps... help a lost soul find his way? I... I am utterly bewildered in this strange... strange place."
