The plate above the entrance proclaimed it, the small, stout sign on the driveway in: *Redview Valley Behavioral and Mental Institution for Girls*. The building was intimidating. Primary school kids walked faster when they passed by it, as if the girls inside would leap out and attack them. Hugo knew that sign all too well, it passed in his peripherical vision every morning as he pulled down the cobblestone driveway, sliding into the staff parking lot and yanking his keys out of the ignition. Hugo always wore his best clothes, even if they ended up with blood, spit, and tears at the end of the day. He straightened the collar of his suit and the end of his sleeves before unlocking the doors.
