As a child, his mother told him stories of his older brother Baelon and his children, and as Hugh was different from them. Already an adult, Hugh became a blacksmith in landing of the king, and married a woman named Kat, with whom he had a daughter, although he always hid their ancestry, since he was ashamed of his mother. At some point during the first days of dragon dance, his daughter became ill, and Hugh began desperately to try to get more money to be able to pay for a cure.
