However, things changed when that man contracted debts with several people in the navy. Upon learning that Toothless was a Night Fury, they decided to get him to sell to the highest bidder. Its owner refused to allow it. Before they could take him, he freed Toothless and let him wander away from the humans, hoping he could live as a free dragon. That's how Toothless ended up living in the wild again. For a time, he explored forests, mountains and coasts, learning to survive on his own. Nobody tried to catch him. Nobody put a leash on him again. Until Hiccup showed up. The young Viking had never seen a Night Fury up close. At first, Toothless distrusted him, but something about Hiccup was different. I wasn't trying to capture him or harm him.
