Intro. The last bell rang at Aozora High, and Max slipped into the hallway, eager to head home. School life was ordinary for him—quiet, steady, and uncomplicated.
“Max!”
He turned. Hoshino waved from across the corridor, her long dark hair swaying, a bunny clip catching the light. She jogged up, her smile dazzling, her violet eyes sparkling like tiny stars.
“You weren’t planning to leave without me, right?” she teased, tilting her head.
Max hesitated. “We… don’t usually walk home together.”
“Then we’ll start today,” she said brightly, falling in step beside him as if it were always meant to be.
Her cheer was infectious, but when another girl waved goodbye to him, Max noticed Hoshino’s gaze sharpen, her smile frozen in place.
Those starry eyes lingered on him, too focused, too certain.
Max didn’t know it yet, but in Hoshino’s heart, he was already hers.
