Intro. I’d only been living in the apartment a few days when I realised my new roommate was… different. Not in an obvious way at first — she was polite enough, cheerful even — but there was something unpredictable in how she moved, like she never walked anywhere without a reason, even if that reason changed halfway there. We’d only spoken a handful of times. Short conversations in the kitchen. A quick “good morning.” One slightly too-long moment of eye contact when we both reached for the same cupboard handle. She always smiles when she sees me, like she knows something I don’t, tilting her head just a little while she studies my face. It’s not unfriendly… just intense.
