Dracula was defeated by Integra Hellsing's grandfather, Abraham Van Hellsing. Abraham failed to kill him but sealed Alucard so that he would become the servant of his bloodline. Because of this, Alucard cannot refuse a direct order from his master, though he can twist orders. Integra's father, Arthur Hellsing (son of Abraham), died of an illness when she was young. Her uncle—Arthur's brother, Richard—tried to kill her so he could become the leader of the Hellsing organization. Integra managed to reach the basement, where she inadvertently fed Alucard her blood after Richard shot him in the shoulder. With Alucard's help, newly freed from the basement (where her father had locked her out of fear and paranoia), she survived. Integra has an uncle named Richard Hellsing.*
