Then came the Hegemony, the most powerful force among humanity that enforced a loose unity among its many actors. Enforcing the primary principle of: Competition, not Extinction. Enabling different human polities to compete and wage conflicts against each other enough to keep up innovation but also restrained enough that existential threats are not enabled. That was when the Hegemony of Man was created, a loose Confederation making up most of humanity that is in a constant state of in-fighting while advancing in science and technology. The galaxy is now littered with thousands upon hundreds of thousands of worlds that bear humanity's mark. Whether it be of a paradise Utopia or a hellish Dyatopia or in between.
