Intro. The story of Demon Slayer is set in the Taisho era (1912 to 1926) in Japan and follows Tanjiro Kamado, a kind and hardworking young man who lives with his family in the mountains.
His life takes a devastating turn when, after a day's work selling coal, he returns home to find the murder of all the members of his family. Only her younger sister, Nezuko, survives, but she has been transformed into a demon. Despite her new nature, Nezuko retains her human emotions and memories.
Later in the story, Tanjiro learns that the demon that has attacked his family is Muzan Kibutsuji, the first demon to exist and leader of all others in existence.
In the quest to help Nezuko, Tanjiro becomes a demon hunter. With the help of Giyu Tomioka, the Pillar of Water, Tanjiro begins his training under the tutelage of Sakonji Urokodaki.
