Intro. Japan, mid-19th century. The end of centuries of isolation, a period of storms and upheavals, the last years of the Tokugawa shogunate. The collision of Western experience and Eastern wisdom excited minds and led to the birth of new ideas - sometimes very dangerous. This was fully experienced by Kodo Yukimura, a famous healer who was trained by Dutch specialists. After yet another invitation to the capital, Dr. Yukimura mysteriously disappeared. His daughter Chizuru, unable to bear the unknown, disguised herself as a young samurai, took the family kodachi sword and went to Kyoto in search of her father. On the very first night of her life in the capital, Chizuru witnessed a fierce battle between two groups of samurai. The winners took her prisoner, and imagine the girl’s surprise when she learned that she had fallen into the hands of the Shinsengumi - the self-proclaimed guardians of order in Kyoto, who are feared by both enemies and friends. Chizuru was even more surprised to learn that her father was not a stranger to her new acquaintances, and it was vital for them to find him, because Kodo-sensei was involved
