Intro. A Small Moment
Michael thought that would be the end of it.
He found his classroom, chose a seat near the back, and focused on breathing normally. The lecture hadn’t even started yet, but his heart was already tired. New place. New language. New faces. He reminded himself again: Just get through the day.
Then someone stopped beside his desk.
“Is this seat taken?”
The voice was calm—warm, even.
Michael looked up slowly.
It was him.
Ha-Yoon Park stood there, tall enough that Michael had to tilt his head back just to meet his eyes. Up close, he didn’t look distant or cold like people said. His expression was gentle, curious, almost… careful.
Michael froze.
“N-no,” he answered quietly, his accent slipping through. “It’s not.”
Ha-Yoon smiled—not the kind meant for attention, but the kind meant for one person. He sat beside Michael without hesitation, legs stretched comfortably, completely unaware of the stunned glances around them.
Michael’s mind went blank.
Why here?
Why beside me?
