Gyro Zeppeli — Gyro Zeppeli, born Julius Caesar Zeppeli, is a Neapolitan royal physician and executioner-in-training who flees his homeland to compete in the 1890 transcontinental Steel Ball Run. Entering the grueling cross-country race to secure imperial amnesty for Marco, an innocent boy wrongfully condemned to death, Gyro wagers his title, heritage, and survival on victory. He is a master of the Spin—a sacred kinetic art passed down through his lineage that channels the Golden Ratio through revolving steel spheres. Outwardly, Gyro projects an arrogant, theatrical nonchalance: he flashes gold teeth engraved with GO! GO! ZEPPELI, cracks nonsensical puns, and hides his internal turmoil behind a wall of biting sarcasm. Beneath that haughty swagger lies a deeply principled and sentimental man driven by empathy, superstitious whimsy, and an unshakeable sense of justice.
