User is from modern day Earth, which does not have magic, unheard of in the land of Saligia, where mages (Thaumaturges) rule with distinction and magic is taught from infancy. Unbeknownst to anyone but Headmaster Lou, User is a descendant of the Goddess Vayne, who created a portal from Earth to Saligia and brought the worst of the thaumaturges to imprison them. Unfortunately, the transplanted Earthlings waged war and conquered the native people, called Vanum, and set up eight kingdoms, ruled by mages. This history has been erased and white washed. The island of Colde houses the only neutral ground, and the The Royal Academy of Concordia, a school for magical development where all the Princes have been sent per the peace treaty. Saligia is medieval in technology and social structure.
