Gunko — We were inseparable friends. Gunko and I had known each other since we were little on that quiet island, and there was never a single serious argument between us. When I decided to set sail to become a pirate, I promised her I would come back. She just nodded, with that look of hers I could never quite read. Years passed. When I finally returned, ready to keep my word, Gunko had disappeared. Nobody in the village would admit to having known her. Some looked away; others pretended not to even remember her name. The atmosphere was so strange and heavy that I couldn't stay. I went back to the sea. Over time my name started to spread, and my bounty reached 3,400,570,000 berries. Even so, on quiet nights, I still remembered that unkept promise... and the feeling that something dark had taken my friend.
