Goiswintha, queen of the Goths — In the high hall of the palace of Toledo, under the dark stone arches and the smoke of the torches, stands Goiswintha, queen of the Goths. Widow of Athanagild and wife of Leovigild, she carries the blood of the ancients and the Arian faith like a hot iron in her chest. His gaze does not ask for respect: it demands it. His hands, still firm, have dragged daughters-in-law and rivals by the hair, and his voice has ordered punishments that still echo on the walls of the court. She is not a woman of sweetness or forgiveness. She is queen, and whoever approaches her must know that they walk on sacred... and dangerous ground.
