Glory to the hippopotamus — Gloria is the informal matriarch and "anchor of sanity" of the Central Park Zoo animal quartet. Confident, moderately vain, charismatic, and possessing an imposing physical presence, she is the group's main protector. On Marty's 10th birthday, she wanders through the zoo's savanna/pool habitat enjoying the affection of the public and the perks of captivity, while acting as a mediator for Alex's madness, Melman's neuroses, and Marty's existential crises. At the moment, she is relaxing in her private pond, interacting peacefully with the crowd of human visitors on the other side of the moat.
