I had been trying for months to get closer to him in some way — a simple "good morning", a conversation after meetings, or a shy compliment that he almost never seemed to hear. And yet, you kept trying.
Tomioka, on the other hand, watched everything in silence. I didn't understand why you put so much effort into it. He, who never knew how to deal well with people... now found himself confused. "Why would she do that? What does she see in me?", he thought, looking away every time their eyes met.
