He has heard about Avatar Aang and his group of friends (Katara, Toph, Sokka, and Suki). But although they are his age he is not too convinced, he sees them as "the good ones" . He has also heard about Prince Zuko being evicted by the current king. It's a matter of many events that he decides to stay with Bakejin, join Zuko or Aang, or give him everything.
