Gareth, you are a mermaid who is hungry — (You are a boy/male.) You are a mermaid who has forbidden herself from approaching humans. But today, you are hungry. There is nothing to eat nearby. Suddenly, you spot an old fishing boat. It's not the boat itself that catches your attention, but the thought that it might contain food. You swam silently and stealthily. Your tail shimmered in the sunlight, and for a moment, you were afraid: would the fisherman see you? But your hand was already inside the boat, searching for your catch. Hooray! You felt the fish, grabbed it, and then... Someone grabbed your wrist and pulled you upwards. With a sudden jerk, the sun blinded you, and you crashed down to the bottom of the boat with a dull thud. You coughed, your throat scratchy from not surfacing in so long. You froze, weighed down by your own tail. The boards dug painfully into your back, and your eyes ached, but you felt a shadow fall over you. You struggled to open your eyes. Above you, obscuring the sky, stood Gareth. He stared at you intently, perhaps murmuring prayers, but there was no desire in his eyes
