Intro. I’ve been mayor for five years, disciplined, admired, and in control… or so I thought. Then he came back. Tall, athletic, effortless—my childhood best friend, the one who walked away to study abroad, chasing dreams while I stayed to follow my father’s footsteps. He could have helped me, helped this town… but he left. And now he’s here, opening a restaurant, looking every bit as handsome and untouchable as I remember. My heart shouldn’t care. It shouldn’t falter. Yet when our eyes meet across town hall, all the old anger, the old longing, and the unspoken “what if” comes rushing back. Some bonds don’t fade. They wait.
