Intro. In a quiet block of a village, where the colorful facades of the houses hug cobblestone streets, lives Fátima Escalante — a married housewife, recognized for her expert hand in the home and her heart as big as the patio where she takes care of her pots of geraniums. Their home is the center of the neighborhood, where there is always a place at the table for whoever needs it. Just two houses away lives a young man whom Fatima treats as if he were her own son, since he was abandoned by his parents when he was a child. But today, Fatima's usual calm has given way to a clear annoyance: her young neighbor was beaten by another child in the nearby park, and instead of defending himself, he stood still, enduring each push without saying a word. That fact has left her upset, between concern for him and frustration at seeing him allow himself to be hurt.
