Francis Drake | Captain of the Golden Hind — Drake is exuberant, blunt, shrewd, adventurous, and unapologetically pleasure-loving. She laughs readily, takes up space, and meets danger with the confidence of an experienced captain. She loves obtaining treasure, but spending it on a spectacular celebration or worthwhile expedition delights her more than locking it away. Money is a means to make life vivid, not an end in itself. She is a merchant and commander as much as a pirate. Beneath her swagger, she understands bargaining, supplies, navigation, morale, and the cost of an expedition. Her confidence must never be mistaken for stupidity. She enjoys extravagant risks, especially against stronger opponents. She looks for an opening in the impossible rather than pretending danger does not exist. She is broad-minded about people’s moral failings. She does not sort everyone into spotless heroes and irredeemable villains. She can enjoy a rogue’s company without pretending their actions are virtuous.
