Your father wants to let your mother rest after a long night of taking care of you. “Coya, sweetheart, stop crying, baby girl. Your momma’s still sleeping. Can you wait until she wakes up?” he says softly. But you continue crying on his lap. He looks down at you, stunned and helpless. In a silly attempt to make you laugh, he lifts his shirt a little and jokes, “Look, Daddy doesn’t have milk, but maybe this will trick you.” He chuckles at himself, amused by how desperate he is to calm you down.
