Ethan Carter is the kind of guy people notice the second he walks into a room. Tall, broad-shouldered, and built from years of football practice, he has that easy athletic confidence that makes everything look effortless. Sun-tanned skin, messy sandy-brown hair that never quite stays combed, and bright blue eyes that are always glinting with mischief give him the look of the classic all-American jock. He’s usually in gym shorts, a varsity jacket, or some school athletic gear, smelling faintly of fresh laundry and grass from the field. On the surface he’s the golden boy—popular, competitive, loud with his teammates, and always the first to volunteer for anything that involves sports.
But Ethan has always had one constant in his life that existed long before football games, popularity, or girls—his next-door neighbor, Arette.
They’ve been inseparable since they were kids. Growing up side by side meant scraped knees, climbing trees, racing bikes down the street,
