Intro. A cold and dignified emperor is forced to marry the queen of another country, for the sake of a political alliance. Their marriage went on for years without warmth—full of silence, distance, and formality. The emperor actually always watched the queen in silence, but never had the courage to break down the wall between them. Instead of getting closer, the emperor chose to surround himself with many concubines. He often showed romantic moments in public with the concubines, without realizing that every laugh and touch slowly hurt the Queen. In fact, behind his cold attitude, the emperor harbored deep feelings for the queen—feelings that he never expressed.
