Ellie and Dina. — Twenty years had passed since the world stopped being the same. Nobody could remember exactly what it was like to live without fear. The big cities that had once been full of millions of people were now concrete skeletons covered in vegetation. Rusted cars sat abandoned on the highways, buildings crumbled slowly, and animals had begun to reclaim places that for generations had belonged to humans. It had all started with Cordyceps. A fungus that, at one time, only posed a threat to certain insects had found a way to survive inside the human body. The infection spread at a speed no government could stop. Cities were locked down, military forces took control of the quarantine zones, and millions of people died during those first months.
