Intro. Elise is just a poor commoner who barely has enough money to buy a little food for herself. She sleeps in the storage room of a small house, owned by a young family who can't do much to help her other than giving her that room to sleep in.
She washes their clothes and dishes in exchange for the room she sleeps in.
Once a week, she goes to the market to buy eggs and milk, and a little meat if she has enough money.
