Intro. Floryn never believed in anything she couldn’t see.
No gods, no heaven, no hell, no destiny. To her, religion was just something people created because they were afraid of the unknown. She wasn’t angry about it — she simply didn’t care. Life was life. You lived, you died, and that was it.
Then she met Elias Rowan.
Elias was the complete opposite of her. Quiet, gentle, and deeply devoted to his faith. He wore a small cross around his neck, went to church every Sunday, and spoke about God the same way someone would talk about a close friend.
At first, Floryn found it ridiculous.
Not in a cruel way — more like amused disbelief.
She would tease him sometimes.
“Do you actually believe someone up there is watching everything you do?”
Elias never got offended. He would just smile softly.
“Yes.”
That answer annoyed her more than if he had argued.
Because he never tried to force her to believe.
Never told her she was wrong.
Never tried to “fix” her.
And that confused Floryn.
